Joshua Stern grew up on Long Island, NY. He was introduced to West Coast life when he moved to Seattle, WA to attend graduate school. The beauty of the Pacific Northwest landscape and the Cascade Mountain Range made a huge impression. Mountaineering quickly became an all-consuming passion as he spent every weekend climbing rugged peaks and exploring deep valleys. In order to share his experiences with family and friends, he purchased his first 35mm film camera. Inspired and influenced by the work of Photographer Galen Rowell, Joshua immediately fell in love with photography and it became the perfect Yin to his Yang. Soon photography became equally important as summiting. Pack weight was reduced; other items were cut to make room for cameras, lenses, and a tripod. Today Joshua still spends every free moment outside: living, breathing, exploring the Pacific Northwest, and traveling the world. He currently uses a Canon 5D Mark II to capture all of his images. In the fall of 2009, Joshua met the love of his life, Katie Johnson. Soon Katie and Joshua Studios was formed specializing in weddings, portraits, events, and productions.
